Benefits of Jojoba Oil

Benefits of Jojoba Oil

For years, jojoba oil has been one of the big names in beauty. You can find it in anti-ageing products, nourishing balms for dry skin, and breakout-preventing serums. It’s everywhere, and for good reason: it has a multitude of fantastic properties, and can help pretty much every skin type!

Jojoba Oil

It’s not just modern cosmetics taking advantage of this ‘liquid gold’, though: the Native Americans used it to treat open wounds and sores, thanks to its antibacterial properties and soothing nature. This is one of the reasons it’s so fantastic to use in acne-fighting products: it battles the bacteria and leaves skin cleaner and more blemish-free. However, this is not the only reason it’s used for oilier skin. Jojoba oil mimics the properties of skin’s natural sebum so closely that your skin can’t tell the difference. If your skin has been unusually oily lately, it could be - counterintuitively - because you’ve been stripping your skin of its natural oils and moisture. This could be because of cold winter weather, vehement air conditioning, or a harsh cleanser. Your skin compensates for this deep dryness by overproducing sebum, which leads to that oily complexion. Because of its similarity to sebum, using jojoba oil convinces the skin that it doesn’t need to produce excess oil, meaning you can control your oily skin. Jojoba oil is also non-comedogenic, so it won’t clog up sensitive pores. Try applying a product containing it as a nighttime ritual, so that your skin has a chance to soak up the beneficial properties, and then in the morning you can wipe away any residual sheen before you go out in public. Success! If you think your skin may be suffering in this way, we’d also suggest a gentle cleanser that locks in moisture without clogging up skin - our Daily Detox Facial Wash gently cleanses with natural sugars, whilst moringa peptides protect skin from daily pollution.

So, jojoba oil is naturally antibacterial, which makes it great for battling breakouts. But did you know that it’s also anti-inflammatory? This makes it great for tackling blemishes that have already taken hold, as well as redness or chapped, irritated skin. It soothes and calms skin, meaning that those with acne-prone skin aren’t the only ones who can benefit from this precious oil. Because it’s non-comedogenic, it works well with oilier skin types, and is often used as a carrier oil rather than the main ingredient. This is because it has a long shelf life, and is fantastic at effectively carrying the other ingredients deep into the skin. In our True Balance Lotionwhich is our newest launch, it works alongside ginger plant cells, avocado extract, and hyaluronic acid to mattify skin and tighten the appearance of pores. Skin benefits from deep hydration without an onslaught of oils that sit on the surface of the skin - partly because jojoba oil sinks in so easily. Your skin is then not left to the ravages of office heating or blasts of freezing wind, and so won’t overproduce sebum - so wave goodbye to blotting paper!

Jojoba Oil

Those with dry skin will no doubt be familiar with the idea of adding an oil to their beauty regime, but perhaps have been put off jojoba by the idea that it works so well for oily skin types. Well, good news - jojoba oil is also fantastic for drier skin types. It’s actually considered a wax, and as such, is combined with rice bran and candelilla waxes in both our Multi Peptide 360 Moisture Cream and our Daily Renew Natural Face Cream.  Both are designed for dry or normal-dry skin, and use the combination of waxes to hydrate the skin. The blend is known as candelilla/jojoba/rice bran polyglyceryl-3 esters, can retain up to six times its own weight in water, and leaves skin bouncy and cushion-like. This forms a hydrating, protective layer on the skin that keeps moisture from the other nourishing ingredients trapped in the deeper layers. The Daily Renew Facial Cream is designed for normal-dry skin, and goes for the more traditional moisturising elements of hyaluronic acid and argan oil, both of which are easily absorbed and create a youthful, bouncy glow to the skin. Meanwhile, the Multi Peptide 360 Moisture Cream is specifically designed for really dry skin, and wraps the face in a comforting layer of fantastically hydrating ingredients. Coconut peptides work to rejuvenate and moisturise, leaving the skin more flexible and protected from wrinkles. Cupuacu butter boosts collagen productivity and maintains the skin barrier, further improving hydration. There are a multitude of other ingredients with great benefits, all of which benefit from the inclusion of jojoba wax in the product, but we’ll let you check them out for yourself!

This multi-tasking miracle oil isn’t just great for slathering on your face, either. It brings the same healing, smoothing properties to haircare, as well as working as a carrier oil again to transport a whole host of nourishing ingredients to your strands. Our Superfood Shine Conditioner promises to create a glossy, weightless mane, and this is due in part to the jojoba oil. It transports healing ingredients like baobab proteins, which help strands to recover, as well as protecting from UV and heat damage. The proteins also boost shine and softness, aided by the carrier oil.
