Understanding Dry Skin
Dry skin is caused by the outer layer of the skin not producing enough moisture (sebum). Dry skin can appear on any part of your body and can often make skin feel tight, rough and itchy. This could also lead to irritation causing redness and some sensitivity.
Although dry skin can happen anywhere on the body, your face is more vulnerable to the climate. Cold, harsh and dry weather conditions can cause sore skin on your face due to making the dryness a lot worse so you need to find skincare products and a routine that can nourish and keep your skin moisturised.
Each individual can have various extremes of dry skin. Whilst one person may suffer with dry patches on their face, someone else may suffer with Dermatitis - the medical term for extreme dry skin. There are various types of Dermatitis but the most common is probably Eczema. This can cause dry, scaly patches on your skin which can often become painful and cause skin inflammation.
How to know if you have dry skin
If your skin tends to feel tight and sometimes you can notice your skin visibly flaking then you have dry skin.
Other tell tale signs of dry skin can include your skin feeling rough when you wake up and difficulty absorbing any moisture you try and feed it through creams and serums.
Your skin might also feel sensitive to certain weather conditions such as cold winds and where dry skin can develop cracks you might feel irritation from using certain products with harsher ingredients in.
What causes dry skin?
You may find yourself questioning, “Why is my skin so dry?” But really, there are a number of things that can create dry skin.
Weather: Different weather conditions may affect your skin and how it acts. Your skin tends to be the driest in winter because both the temperature and humidity levels have dropped. This can lead to cold weather creating itchy dry skin.
Heat: If you’re the type of person who loves having the heating on in the house so it’s snug and cosy, or love sitting in front of the fire of an evening then you may suffer with dry skin. This is because the heat sucks all the moisture and humidity out of your skin and dries it out.
Harsh Products: Some products designed for your skin can feature harsh ingredients such as chemicals and soaps. These can strip your skin of its natural moisture leading to dryness. All of our products here at Evolve use natural ingredients which are a lot more gentle on the skin and help to lock in moisture.

Step by step routine
When you suffer with dry skin you need to find products and a routine that will nourish, heal and protect your skin whilst locking in moisture. Dryness can often make skin appear dull rather than healthy and glowing. With this simple step by step routine using our products, you’ll be moisturised, nourished and glowing in no time!
Step One: The first step in any good skincare routine is to cleanse your face and neck. This will remove any dirt and unwanted bacteria from your face, giving the following products a nice clean surface and open pores to work their way into.
Our Gentle Cleansing Melt is great for this as it is specifically designed for normal-dry skin. It contains nourishing organic Baobab Oil which soothes and hydrates the skin, as well as natural sugar extracts which turn the melt into a creamy melt that easily washes away. This leaves the skin clean, calm and hydrated.
This can be used day or night as it’s a great makeup remover too! Just massage onto your dry face - including your eye area - apply warm water to turn it into a creamy milk and simply rinse away!
Step Two: After you have cleansed your skin you need to apply a toner. This may sound harsh, but our toners can help you to create clean and moisturised skin.
Our new Liquid Radiance Glycolic Toner is suitable for absolutely any skin type as it is 100% natural. It is an AHA/BHA liquid exfoliator designed to gently exfoliate to reveal brighter and smoother skin. This is designed to reduce dryness and irritation in the skin thanks to its use of Galactoarabinan helping to reduce water loss.
You can use this by spritzing onto a (reuseable) cotton pad and applying over your cleansed face and neck.
Step Three: Once you have cleansed and toned then it is important to apply a serum. Serums can help to lock in even more moisture to really help against dryness.
Our multi-award winning Hyaluronic Serum 200 contains 200mg of Hyaluronic Acid per bottle. But don’t be scared off by the use of the word acid! Hyaluronic Acid is proven to hydrate the skin from within. It can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water so it is great for moisturising the skin.
You can apply this directly onto your face and neck to reveal hydrated and plumped skin.
Step Four: If you have struggled with dry skin for a while then you’re probably fairly accustomed to moisturising your skin. Moisturising is important to put all the moisture back into your skin that you may have lost.
We offer two great creams that will really help nourish dry skin. Our Daily Renew Facial Cream restores normal to dry skin with its blend of oils. It contains organic Argan Oil to nourish and Hyaluronic Acid to soothe and hydrate.
We also have our Multi Peptide 360 Moisture Cream which is designed to help anti-ageing. This contains a range of superfoods including Prickly Pear which is used to calm the skin and Cacay Oil which is full of Bio Retinol and Linoleic acid to support the skin barrier layer and to lock moisture into the skin.
These are great to apply onto your face and neck, both morning and evening.
