Ingredient Focus: AHAs
AHAs stands for Alpha Hydroxy Acids, which are chemical compounds that can be of natural origin or synthetic origin.
AHAs are what's known as 'chemical exfoliators', (as apposed to physical exfoliators,) which are beneficial to the skin as they negate from the use of harsh scrubs which can scratch the surface of delicate and sensitive skin. They work by gently dissolving the 'glue' bonds between skin cells to allow for the removal of dead cells, and result in a subsequently smooth skin surface.
Exfoliation promotes cell growth and renewal. It also helps to refine skin's texture, allowing skin to appear more radiant.
Skin naturally shreds cells every day, but this natural process can be slowed down for many reasons, for example dry skin or genetics. Exfoliating the uppermost layers of the skin can help to increase the rate of cell turnover, allowing for new, softer and healthier-looking skin to emerge.
